About Us

Troop 186 BSA has served Arlington families and the community at large since 1968.  We are conveniently located near the center of the city, and have members from north, south, east and west Arlington.

We're a small group of young men who enjoy the outdoors and enjoy it responsibly*!

Our favorite activity is old-fashioned camping.  In it we learn planning, organization, cooking and way too much to list here – and besides, it a LOT of fun!

We also do other great stuff and our parents/guardians are encouraged to get involved, too.

Troop 186 is a boy-led troop. The Scouts elect their own leaders and decide on the activities of the Troop. The adults' role is to insure safety and give support when necessary. Scouting, however, is not hands-off parenting. Parent involvement is essential to the success of your son in Scouting and is some of the most joyful and productive time a parent can experience.

*Troop 186 practices Leave No Trace, a national and international program designed to assist outdoor enthusiasts with their decisions about how to reduce their impacts when they hike, camp, picnic, snowshoe, run, bike, hunt, paddle, ride horses, fish, ski or climb. The program strives to educate all those who enjoy the outdoors about the nature of their recreational impacts as well as techniques to prevent and minimize such impacts. Leave No Trace is best understood as an educational and ethical program, not as a set of rules and regulations.
